Legal News for Missouri Personal Injury Attorneys. Child killed, 35 others reported injured in multi-vehicle crash in Kansas City.

Missouri personal injury lawyer alerts- Interstate 35 crash left 35 injured, 1 dead in crash.

Kansas City, MO—As many as 30 vehicles were reportedly involved in a multiple-vehicle wreck that killed a young child and left 35 people injured on Saturday morning, January 16, 2010. The massive pile-up occurred on Interstate 35, south of Shawnee Road near Wellsville at approximately 7:40 a.m., according to information provided by KMBC.com.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) allegedly reported that the crash occurred after a southbound motorist struck a tow truck that was in the middle of towing a hindered vehicle. The multi-vehicle collision allegedly left semi-trucks and various other vehicles badly damaged, injuring their occupants as well.

Officers from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office allegedly reported that a 3-year-old child’s injuries proved fatal at the scene of the horrible crash. Thirty-five additional people allegedly suffered injuries, ranging from minor to critical in the pile-up. Twenty-three of those injured were transported by responding emergency medical services (EMS) crews to hospitals for treatment by medical professionals. Three were allegedly listed in critical condition along with three others in serious condition.

The northbound lane of I-35 was allegedly closed off prior to 12 p.m., along with southbound lanes, which remained closed until Saturday evening pending the clean up of the scene and further investigation into what may have caused the incident. Accident investigators reportedly noted that dense fog and freezing temperatures, which caused slick roads, might have been a factor in the multi-vehicle wreck. Investigations continue.
