Englewood, NJ – January 25 -2010 — At age 26, bridal gown and bridesmaid dress designer, Liz Fields, is creating a new niche for the industry. Growing up in the industry gave Liz Fields a great inside view of how the special occasion business has changed over the past 20 years. She had a vision to create a collection of gowns that were sought after by women because of their versatility and ability to actually wear the garment more than once in their lives. Just take a look through the Liz Fields collection and you won’t find yourself looking at bridesmaid gowns, but rather you will be looking at gorgeous evening gowns and special occasion dresses that are perfect for a birthday, prom, fundraising event, corporate event or just a night out on the town.
Although Liz Fields is a new label, she is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. “My mission is to create gowns that women instantly fall in-love with,” Says Head Designer Liz Fields, “I have a modern vision of sophistication, style and an acute sense of detail and quality.”
With her dreamy, romantic design elements, savvy business and marketing sense, drive to succeed, and the help of some of the industry’s leading professionals, Liz Fields has launched her Spring 2010 collection and is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with.
Liz Fields wasn’t always in fashion. She started out as a med student at George Washington University. “I thought that by going into the medical field it would be a stable and a guaranteed income,” Liz states.” But always in the back of my mind I craved for more creativity.” It was then that she got a chance to work as an assistant costume designer for a major motion picture filmed in Kazakhstan. Working alongside Award-winning designers Merit Allen and Michael O’Connor was the experience that finally made her realize her calling.”I saw how fabulous and happy these designers were and I knew I wanted that too. I think that fashion has always been a part of my life, I just didn’t think that I would be able to pursue it. I can remember when I was five and I use to sketch designs and my Grandma and I would try our best to make them into doll clothes,” Liz states nostalgically.
After George Washington University Liz traveled for years learning about different cultures and immersing herself into their traditions, which has also been a major source of inspiration for her designs. It was then that she received a phone call from the dean of admissions at FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising) to congratulate Liz on her acceptance and how she loved her application letter and portfolio. Once completing FIDM, she then moved back to New York where she interned and, shortly after, became the assistant designer for a bridesmaid, bridal and special occasion manufacturer. Later she was placed in charge of product development and production which was the stepping stool she needed. “I compiled all that I have learned, expanded my mind into the future, and started on a new chapter in the Bridesmaid, Bridal and Special Occasion niche,” Liz states. “We set ourselves apart by introducing various two-toned combinations and choice of length on most of our bridesmaid dresses as well as a new signature print charmeuse. All the bridal gowns are available in both plus and petite sizes and each gown has its own story to tell”.
