Justice Department Investigating Blackwater on Bribery Suspicion
February 2, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ The US Justice Department has launched an investigation as to whether Blackwater Worldwide tried to bribe Iraqi officials to allow the company to continue servicing Iraq after Blackwater’s employees became involved in the fatal shooting of 17 Iraqis.
According to the New York Times, the DOJ’s fraud division is looking into whether Blackwater, now known as Xe Services, paid more than $1 million to Iraqi officials in order to remain on as a security provider in the country.
Any such payments would be in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which bans US Corporations from paying bribes to foreign governments and officials.
