A two-car injury accident in Brasher, New York over the weekend left one person in hot water as Massena-based State Police launched an investigation into the sobriety of the driver.

The accident occurred on CR 55 in the Town of Brasher at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Following the motor vehicle accident, Melinda M. Rafter, 27, was arrested for DWI, as well as for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd, and Unlicensed Operator.

Police officials said Rafter was traveling northbound on CR 55, in a 1996 Dodge Ram pickup, when she collided into the back of a 2003 Chevrolet driven by Vera J. Viau, 51. The impact caused Rafter’s vehicle to overturn.

A 15-year-old female passenger in Viau’s vehicle was immediately taken to Massena Memorial Hospital for back pain.
