Elderly man plows through Nevada casino; 2 dead, 7 injured

Personal injury attorneys alert- Seven people were injured, two killed when a car crashed into a Nevada casino called the Edgewater Hotel & Casino.

Laughlin, NV—An elderly man, who is believed have suffered a medical episode, plowed in the 26-story Edgewater Hotel & Casino, killing two women, and injuring seven others. The double fatality crash occurred on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 around 9:24 a.m., as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the driver of 2007 silver Pontiac Vibe, Walter McGie, 70, of Kelso, Washington, plowed nearly 35 feet through the glass doors of the casino, hitting several banks of slot machines, shearing off stools that were bolted to bases, and threw slot machines into the air. McGie told officials that he fainted while he was driving, which caused him to drive through a red light, and towards the Edgewater valet area. Officials are also investigating whether the Pontiac may have malfunctioned. Seven people were injured as result of the wreck. Responding emergency medical services (EMS) teams rushed the injured victims to hospitals in Arizona and Nevada for treatment. Some of the injuries were reportedly critical. One of the deceased women was discovered in front of the crumpled hood of the car, while the other was found behind the vehicle. McGie was later arrested on two counts of reckless driving causing death. A full investigation is currently underway by police officials. Alcohol was ruled out as a factor.
