Legal News for South Carolina Personal Injury Lawyers. A police deputy died after becoming pinned between his car and a tree.

South Carolina personal injury lawyer alerts- police officer died after accident, South Carolina Highway Patrol investigates.

Oconee County, SC—A police deputy was tragically killed when he became pinned between his patrol car and a tree after exiting his vehicle, which had reportedly become stuck on a dirt road. The incident occurred at approximately 1:35 a.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, according to information provided by GreenvilleOnline.com.

The 26-year-old Oconee County sheriff’s officer, identified as William “Bill” Frederick Schuck III, was reportedly conducting his patrol duties down a private dirt road when his patrol vehicle seemingly became stuck on the roadway, which is located off of State Route 11. Upon leaving his vehicle to assess the situation, the car somehow moved forward, consequently trapping him between his vehicle and a tree. An autopsy conducted by the Oconee County Coroner after the fatal incident showed that the deputy died after suffering traumatic asphyxiation. The injuries he sustained were reportedly deemed “accidental”.

Schuck had been a member of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office for five months and is survived by his wife, who is currently expecting their first child. He was described as “an intelligent officer who was dedicated to law enforcement and just starting his family”. Troopers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the fatal incident.
