Greene County, IL (News)—A motor vehicle collision (MVC) on U.S. Route 67 resulted in the death of an Iowa woman and left two others injured. The two-vehicle crash occurred early Sunday morning, February 7, 2010, according to information provided by KMOX.com.
Accident reports seemingly stated that an SUV, driven by Iowa resident Mindi Mae Rogers, 27 was traveling on U.S. 67 when an oncoming vehicle struck her SUV head-on. Rogers reportedly suffered fatal injuries on impact of the crash. Michelle Barnes, 33, was driving the car at the time. Barnes and a passenger in her vehicle, identified as Meredith Middleton, 22, allegedly sustained serious injuries in the wreck. No citations have been issued in correlation with the motor vehicle accident. Illinois State Police (ISP) deputies are conducting accident investigations to figure out what may have caused the fatal head-on collision.
According to information provided by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), there were 3,501 head-on collisions reported in 2008. Of these accidents, 105 were deemed fatal and resulted in 129 deaths. It was reported that 1,318 of all head-on crashes caused 2,600 victims to suffer injury. As of February 9, 2010, there have been 77 reported fatal crashes, resulting in 88 fatalities.
