/ EINPresswire.com / Costa Mesa, California, USA — Organizers of the Caribbean Hotel & Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) have announced that a special presentation has been added to the program that will focus on Haiti and the hotel sector’s critical role in the reconstruction efforts. Cecelia E. Rabassa, Chief Investment Officer, International Finance Corporation (IFC), World Bank Group, will address the CHRIS attendees on efforts being made by the World Bank Group. CHRIS is being held February 10-12, 2010, at the InterContinental Miami in Miami, Florida, USA.
“As Haiti moves from relief efforts to reconstruction efforts, the hotel industry is expected to play a critical role in providing temporary housing for aid workers, NGO’s and all those involved in re-building Port-Au-Prince and surrounding areas in Haiti,” said Jim Burba, President of CHRIS host BHN. “Hotels were not spared the tremendous damage that occurred on January 12, 2010, and will need to be built, or re-built quickly, to provide some of the necessary infrastructure to house those coming to Haiti to help with the rebuilding of the country. We are pleased that the World Bank is focusing on this challenge and that they are able to provide an update to CHRIS delegates on the needs and the type of support available,” Burba added.
In recent days CHRIS has added a Silent Auction to the event, which will benefit Partners in Health, a prominent aid organization which was already active in Haiti before the earthquake, and which is now providing much needed medical support to earthquake victims.
CHRIS will focus on hotel and tourism investment opportunities in the Caribbean and will be held annually in Miami, the financial and transportation gateway to the Caribbean region.
