Wausau, WI—On Wednesday, February 10, 2010, the Quality Surface Processing employee who was severely burned in a chemical explosion tragically passed away. As reported by the Des Monies Register and Justice News Flash, the explosion took place on Tuesday February 9, 2010, while the workers were striping paint from pieces of metal.
Eric Simpson, 31, was rushed to Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston after sustaining serious burns in the explosion. Simpson was then transferred to the burn unit at U-W Madison Hospital, where his severe injuries proved fatal and doctors pronounced him dead. A new report indicated that some equipment fell into a vat with a hot salt bath, which may have ignited the blast. A full investigation into the chemical explosion is underway by police officials, and officials from the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov. OSHA reported that they would conduct an inspection for any safety violations at the plant. The company reportedly hasn’t had any OSHA citations over the last ten years.
Simpson was reportedly a military chaplain with the Iowa Army National Guard, where held the rank of captain and was assigned to the 334th Brigade Support Battalion at Camp Dodge in Johnston.
