Maynardville, TN (News)—A head-on collision resulted in the death of three people and left two others injured late Saturday night, February 13, 2010. The fatal motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred just before midnight along the 7700 block of Maynardville Highway, according to information provided by KnoxNews.com.
Officials from the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by 34-year-old Frankie S. Langley, headed southbound along the roadway when it crossed the centerline for unknown reasons, consequently colliding with a northbound vehicle. The other vehicle involved was a 1993 Cadillac DeVille, driven by 39-year-old Karen R. Miles, at the time of the two-vehicle crash. Reports state Langley was traveling at an excessively high rate of speed when it hit the oncoming Cadillac.
Both drivers involved in the collision suffered fatal injuries in the crash. An unidentified male passenger, traveling in the Cadillac at the time, was also killed in the motor vehicle accident. Two unidentified female Cadillac passengers allegedly sustained injuries in the wreck, though the extents of their injuries were undisclosed by authorities. Toxicology tests for both drivers are pending.
According to information provided by through the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) http://www.nhtsa.gov, in 2008, 1,035 people suffered fatal injuries in Tennessee motor vehicle accidents.
