OSHA notified of fatal construction accident at Baton Rouge, LA site

Louisiana construction accident lawyer alerts- two employees suffered fatal and non-life threatening injuries in construction accident.

Baton Rouge, LA (News)—A construction worker was tragically killed while another suffered minor injuries in a work-place accident on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at approximately 4:15 p.m. The incident occurred in the 3000 block of North Sherwood Forest, while employees were reported working on a project for the East Baton Rouge Parish school system, according to information provided by 2theadvocate.com.

Authorities from the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) allegedly reported the construction workers fell after a beam suddenly struck the lift they were on, causing them to fall approximately 20 feet to the ground below. A Hispanic man suffered a potential traumatic brain injury (TBI) and was pronounced dead at the scene of the construction accident. His identity was undisclosed pending family notification. Another unidentified man allegedly sustained minor injuries in the incident and was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment by doctors and nurses. Southland Steel Fabricators employed both of the workers involved. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov has received notification of the fatal work-place accident while investigations are reported underway.

According to the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) reported that in 2007, the construction industry sector had the most on-the-job fatalities, totaling 1,178. There were also 135,350 reported construction injuries and illnesses throughout the nation that year.
