Virginia auto accident attorney alerts- Van accident left seven Temple University (Philadelphia, PA) Bhangra dance team members injured, one dead.

Dinwiddie County, VA (News)—A van occupied by eight members of a dance team became involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash on Saturday, February 27, 2010. The motor vehicle accident, which occurred on Interstate 85, resulted in the death of a 21-year-old female, according to information provided by the Philadelphia Daily News.

Virginia State Police (VSP) authorities allegedly reported a Ford E-350 van, driven by Bilal Badruddin, 20, carrying eight members of the Temple University Bhangra dance team when the incident occurred. The dance team was reported driving through Dinwiddie County, Virginia, en route to Durham, North Carolina for a dance competition, when Badruddin, who was seemingly tired from the long excursion, veered into a guardrail on the left side of the roadway. Badruddin then overcorrected, subsequently sending the vehicle careening into another guardrail on the right side of the road. On impact, two of the vehicles passengers, identified as Kammini Rajoopath, 21, and Fatima Pervaiz, 20, were ejected out of a backseat window.

Emergency medical services (EMS) crews apparently responded to the scene to airlift Pervaiz, who suffered severe though non-life threatening injuries in the crash, to Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital via medical helicopter so she could be treated by doctors and nurses. Rajoopath’s injuries sadly proved fatal at the scene. Badruddin as well as six other passengers, identified as Manisha Modi, 19, Kirandeep Shamphale, 21, Roshni Patel, 19, Reshma Roy, 19, and Nidhi Thakur, 20, suffered minor injuries in the wreck. VSP officials cited Badruddin with reckless driving in connection with the fatal van accident.
