Legal News for Michigan Personal Injury Attorneys. A teacher smashed through her classroom wall, causing glass and debris to injure six young children.

Michigan personal injury attorney alerts- SUV crashed into school, leaving six students injured.

Franklin, MI (News)—A teacher attempting to back into a parking spot allegedly pressed down on the accelerator instead of the break, causing her SUV to violently crash into a preschool. Six young students were hurt after being struck by soaring glass and debris, though injuries sustained in the incident were not deemed to be life-threatening. The motor vehicle collision (MVC) occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, according to information provided by the Detroit Free Press.

Franklin Police Department Officials reported that when a Huda School and Montessori teacher left her classroom to move her Jeep Grand Cherokee, she inadvertently backed her sport utility vehicle halfway through the classroom. Prior to impact, 17 preschoolers, whose ages ranged from 3 to 4, were inside the building enjoying snack time. Thankfully, a parent who is a doctor was inside the K-8 Islamic parochial school at the time and provided preliminary care for injured students, pending the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS) crews. Four of the six injured children were reportedly taken to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak to be treated for lacerations, bumps and bruises. One of those students, the most seriously injured, suffered a broken nose in the incident as well. Two other children were hurt but did not require medical treatment.

The teacher, whose identity was not released by police officials, was sent home after the seemingly traumatic incident. Counseling was also provided for students on Wednesday, March 10. Investigations into the SUV accident are underway.
