Subject: Call for resignation of the Greek Competition Commission
Denouncement to the E.U.Antitrust authorities.In a statement published on Friday in Athens,STOPCARTEL Antitrust N.G.O. has made a call for immediate resignation of the president and the members of the Greek Competition Commission.They officially overthrew the rule of law.
The statement came soon after their decision to reject an application for postponement of the judgement of a case due to heavy injury of the lawyer of the plaintiff company, as the legislation provides.This is the last of a series of illegal practices of the present president and members of the commission over the last several months..
IRON TENCO S.A. the company who submitted since 2006 the two Antitrust complaints that uncovered the hard core Greek steel cartel,proceeded to the Greek Competition Commission since 10 months ago after an order of the Minister of the Economy and Development, with an application to revoke the decision of the scandalous acquittal of certain members of the said steel cartel.
Following continuous unacceptable and illegal practices in handling Antitrust complaints concerning several sectors of the Greek economy,exersising internal terrorism and persecutions against members of the staff of the commission reacting to the above illegal practices,the president and the group which has been appointed by the previous government to exercise control of the Greek Competition Commission on behalf of the large economic tycoons of the country, passed last week the red line, denying to the legal representitive of the above plaintiff company the basic constitutonal human right of legal representation and assistance! .
The said,president and members of the commission rejected last Thursday an application for postponement of the judgement of the above steel cartel case, made by the plaintiff company, due to heavy injury of their lawyer in a road accident, as the legislation provides and began the judgement procedure in the absence of the plaintiff and their lawyer !
With the above move,the Greek Competition Commission overthrew officially the rule of law.
The plaintif company is preparing an official denouncement to the European Competition Commissioner and the European Parliament, to the Transparency committee of the Greek Parliament and to the Greek Minister of Economy and Development,calling them to take action and investigate this case that shows strong indications that represent another serious corruption practice in the public sector of the country.
STOPCARTEL N.G.O has reported officially last year the illegal practices of the Greek Competition Commission to the European Competition Commissioner and the European Parliament, obtaining a decision of the Petitions Commission of the European Parliament that they will keep the above case open for further investigation.The denouncement to the previous Commissioner Mrs Krooes is still in arears.
