A 13 year-old prodigy is claiming age discrimination by a university.
Connecticut (WiredPRNews.com) – A 13 year-old is claiming he is being discriminated against by the university he attends due to his age. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), Colin Carlson, who is enrolled at the University of Connecticut, has filed a claim of age discrimination after being told he is not old enough to take an overseas course.
Colin is quoted by the AP as stating of the issue, “I’m losing time in my four-year plan for college… They’re upsetting the framework of one of my majors.” His mother reportedly offered to release the school from liability as well as chaperon the trip for the class abroad in order for him to be able to take it. Michael Kirk, a spokesman for the university is stated in the report to note that safety is a typically a first travel concern for students who study abroad.
The U.S. Department of Education is reportedly investigating the complaint.
