Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. The CPSC and HC have announced the recall of Crate and Barrel Glass Water Bottles for injury risks associated with them.

Product liability attorney alert- Laceration hazards prompt Crate and Barrel to issue product recall of glass water bottles.

Northbrook, IL—Crate and Barrel, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov and Health Canada (HC), has participated in the voluntary recall of Glass Water Bottles due to the laceration hazard they pose. The CPSC announced the consumer product safety recall on Thursday, April 1, 2010.

According to the CPSC news release, “The glass beverage bottles can shatter when the consumer is removing or inserting the stopper, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.” Crate and Barrel has received seven complaints of shattering water bottles, four of which resulted in hand lacerations. Approximately 42,000 bottles were up for sale in the United States, while another 2,200 were retailed in Canada.

The glass water bottles were sold in 22-ounce and 50-ounce sizes, both of which are included in the product recall. The 22-ounce bottles have the SKU number 437-151, while the 50-ounce bottles have the SKU number 437-169. SKU numbers were printed on a white bar code label, located on the bottom of the glass water bottles.

The potentially dangerous water bottles were sold at Crate and Barrel retail stores in the U.S. and Canada, through Crate and Barrel’s catalog and online at www.crateandbarrel.com. Crate and Barrel, a division of Euromarket Designs Inc., sold the defective China-manufactured bottles from December 2008 to February 2010. Prices reportedly ranged from $9 to $17.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the potentially risky glass water bottles and return them to Crate and Barrel for a full reimbursement. Those who purchased the recalled water bottles through a company catalog or online may visit Crate and Barrel’s website for details on how to return the water bottles for a full refund. For more information regarding the product safety recall, Crate and Barrel may be reached at (800) 451-8217 Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT, or on the Web.
