April 2, 2010 – For only the second time in 27 months, more jobs were created in a month than lost in the US. The Labor Department reported that employers added 162,000 jobs to their payrolls, a number slightly below economist estimates. However, the country’s unemployment rate stayed steady at 9.7%.
Whether this is a sign of good things to come remains to be seen, but for March, at least, employment numbers were boosted by 48,000 jobs added for the US Census. Some economists predict that the Census could add 1 million jobs to the US payroll this year.
