Legal News for Illinois Wrongful Death Attorneys. The Chicago Fire Department faces pending wrongful death litigation with regard to a fatal house blaze.

Illinois wrongful death attorney news- Chicago Fire Department slapped with wrongful death lawsuit after firefighters allegedly failed to adequately search home.

Chicago, IL—A wrongful death lawsuit was filed against the Chicago Fire Department (CFD) with regard to a fatal residential blaze, which occurred April 6, 2009. The victim’s family hired a wrongful death attorney and filed the lawsuit on April 6, 2010, exactly one year after the tragic fire occurred, according to information provided by ChicagoBreakingNews.com.

Reports stated a fire broke out in a two-flat house, located at 3534 West Polk Street. When Chicago Fire Department rescue crews responded to the scene of the blazing inferno at approximately 6:25 a.m., they did not find Crosby Lipscomb, who lived in the basement apartment of the home. Lipscomb’s relatives allegedly managed to kick through the door of the home where the subsequently discovered his body two days after the accidental cooking fire broke out. His family members apparently found the fatally injured victim in close proximity to his bed. An autopsy deemed smoke inhalation as the cause of death.

The wrongful death lawsuit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, reportedly contended responding firefighters failed to sufficiently search the home, which could have potentially saved the East Garfield Park man’s life. The plaintiff’s are allegedly seeking at least $50,000 in compensatory damages. The case continues.
