Legal news for product liability attorneys. Hyland bicycles and Carbon bicycle forks recalled for fall hazard.

Product liability attorneys alert- Fall hazards prompt recall of Hyland bicycles and Carbon forks.

Bloomington, MN—Hyland Bicycles and Carbon Bicycle Forks have been voluntarily recalled by both the importer, Civia Cycles, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) http://www.cpsc.gov. The bicycles and bicycle forks were recalled because of the fall hazard they pose, as reported by the CPSC on Thursday, April 8, 2010.

About 800 of the Taiwan-manufactured bicycles and bicycle forks have been recalled. The bicycle forks can reportedly crack or break, which poses a fall hazard to consumers. So far there have been two reports of forks cracking and one report of a fork breaking that caused a facial abrasion and bruised ribs. The CPSC reported, “This recall involves all Civia Hyland bicycles sold with original equipment carbon fiber forks and all Civia Carbon forks sold as aftermarket products. The forks are black and have the word ‘Civia’ forged into the fork dropout.”

The bikes and bike part was sold at specialty bicycle retailers nationwide from April 2008 through February 2010. The Civia Hyland complete bicycles retailed for between $1,675 and $3,500, and $195 for the Carbon forks. Consumers are advised to stop using the bicycles with the recalled forks and to contact an authorized Civia Cycles retailer for a free replacement fork. All known users have been contacted.

For more information, consumers can contact Civia Cycles toll-free at (877) 774-6208 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit their Web site at www.civiacycles.com.
