North Carolina personal injury attorney alerts- A motor vehicle collision involving a van and go-kart left two kids injured.

Kannapolis, NC—A 60-year-old motorist has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident that occurred Wednesday, April 7, 2010 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The 9:34 a.m. accident involved a go-kart and left two children seriously injured as a result, according to information provided by WBTV.com.

Two 12-year-olds reportedly hopped into a go-kart and were exiting the driveway at 1008 Debbie Street Wednesday morning when a passing vehicle struck the go-kart and fled the scene without ever coming to a stop. A passing motorist, identified as Chris Mullis, allegedly called 911 after witnessing the horrifying hit-and-run motor vehicle collision (MVC). The driver of the go-kart, 12-year-old Weston Edwards, was allegedly wearing a helmet at the time though his passenger Kyle Graham, also 12 years old, was not. According to Graham’s grandmother, who was at the scene as well, “I thought they were dead.”

Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel responded to the scene to transport both of the injured victims to Carolinas Medical Center-Main via medical helicopter. While Graham was listed in good condition Thursday morning, Edwards remained hospitalized in critical condition.

According to reports, police deputies apprehended the hit-and-run driver, identified as James Ray Johnson, after noticing his 2000 Ford Windstar van less than a mile away from the scene. The motorist was charged with felony hit and run and failure to have a driver’s license.
