Legal News for Georgia Employment Attorneys. A Cumming, Georgia resident suffered fatal injuries in an industrial accident at a metal welding plant.

Georgia employment lawyer alert- OSHA is expected to probe a fatal workplace accident that resulted in the death of a worker in Forsyth County, Georgia.

Forsyth County, GA—A metal worker was killed in a gruesome industrial accident in Forsyth County, Georgia on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. The employee reportedly became entrapped in a metal polishing machine and died before fire rescue officials arrived at the scene, according to information provided by the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Reports stated a 911 call was made at approximately 2:07 p.m. Tuesday, prompting Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office authorities and Forsyth County Fire Department rescue personnel to be dispatched to 1900 Grassland Parkway. The workplace accident, in which a 53-year-old worker became entangled in a running “machine that polishes heavy gauge metal”, occurred at the AP Specialty Metals plant. While no other workers reported seeing the accident take place, an employee quickly noticed the aftermath of the deadly incident and swiftly turned the equipment off.

The victim, identified as Jeffrey E. Thurman, allegedly succumbed to the severe injuries he sustained from the incident before fire rescue crews arrived at the scene. According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Frank Huggins, “Our findings are that it was a tragic workplace accident… No one knows but him how he got in it, and the consequences were tragic.”

While the Sheriff’s department has apparently completed its investigation and do not have any intentions of filing criminal charges with regard to the fatal workplace accident, authorities from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are expected to conduct an independent probe into the incident.
