April 20, 2010 – The US Department of Education has moved to require schools and universities to provide stronger evidence that they comply with the Title IX gender equity law to provide equal opportunities for females in athletics.
The move repeals a 2005 provision that allowed schools to use a survey to gauge its female students’ interest in sports to show Title IX compliance, where non-responses were credited to disinterest.
But now a survey alone cannot be used to justify non-compliance with Title IX.
