Legal News for Product Liability Attorneys. Toyota announced that it would recall of 34,000 Lexus GX 460 and Land Cruiser Prado for alleged SUV rollover hazards.

Product liability lawyer alert- Toyota announced the defective product recall of the Lexus GX 460 and Land Cruiser Prado for SUV rollover dangers.

Detroit, MI—In yet another blow to the incessantly scrutinized Toyota Motor Corp., the automotive giant has announced a new recall of Lexus GX 460 and Land Cruiser Prado sport utility vehicles due to defective stability control systems in the vehicles. This was the second recall since Friday, April 16, 2010, in which Toyota recalled nearly 600,000 Sienna minivans for issues with the vehicle’s spare tires, and raises the number of vehicles affected by Toyota recalls since November 2009 to more than nine million, according to information provided by the New York Times.

The recall announcement was issued shortly after Toyota made a separate declaration, in which the manufacturer agreed to pay a $16.4 million fine proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Reports stated the GX “failed to prevent its rear end from sliding sideways during sharp turns”, creating a potential SUV rollover risk. Of the 34,000 vehicles affected by the worldwide automobile recall, 9,400 Lexus GX 460’s are in the United States.

According to Toyota’s chief quality officer for North America, Steve St. Angelo, “Toyota’s objective is to provide a high level of safety and quality, while meeting and surpassing governmental regulations… Our engineers have conducted tests to confirm the V.S.C. performance issue raised by Consumer Reports, and we are confident this V.S.C. software update addresses the concern.”

Toyota is reportedly providing concerned automobile owners with loaner vehicles until the software updates are available. Repairs, which will take approximately an hour, are expected to begin at the end of the month.
