April 23, 2010 – As the cars drive away from the Motor City, the tractors are driving in as Detroit steps up its urban agriculture efforts.
According to the Associated Press, Detroit contains more than 40 square miles of vacant property. These 25,000 empty acres cover the same amount of space as the entire city of San Francisco. Some are looking at the vacant land as a vehicle for job creation. Self-Help Addiction Rehabilitation wants to create organic farms in four struggling neighborhoods, the AP says.
