Legal news for Colorado personal injury attorneys. Denver man says he was sexually abused while at seminary school.

Colorado personal injury attorneys alert- Catholic priest, Mark Matson, accused of sexual abuse of St. Andrews seminary school student.

Denver, CO—A Denver man has filed a $1 million lawsuit against a Catholic order for alleged sexual abuse he endured while attending a Glendale seminary school in 1976. The suit was filed in the Denver County District Court on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, as reported by The Denver Post.

The plaintiff, who is only identified as John Doe, claims he endured repeated sexual abuse and molestation by Father Mark Matson, who was a St. Andrew’s Seminary rector. Doe reportedly met Matson while visiting St. Andrew’s Seminary as a prospective student in 1976.

The lawsuit alleges that while Doe was staying in the student dorms, Matson molested him during the night. When Doe enrolled as a ninth-grade student at St. Andrew’s, Matson continued to sexually assault the boy throughout the school year. The plaintiff claims Matson eventually raped him while he was unconscious. When Doe confronted Matson about the incident, he was expelled and Matson claimed to have discovered marijuana in Doe’s personal belongings.

The lawsuit is seeking over $1 million in compensation.

Matson is currently serving a 20-year prison term in Hawaii after being found guilty of abusing a 13-year-old boy while employed as a priest. Matson also has been accused of molesting two Colorado boys, but those charges were dropped in 1987.
