Portland, OR—A collision between a Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) light rail train and a car that ran a red light, left three people injured in downtown Portland. The car reportedly ran the red light at the Northwest First Avenue and Everett Street intersection in the Old Town area, as reported by KPTV.com.

A TriMet spokesperson stated, when the car ran the red traffic light it subsequently collided with a southbound MAX Blue Line train at around 10:15 p.m. Two people were on board of the train at the time and were injured as a result. The victims received medical attention at the scene by responding emergency medical services (EMS) teams and were released. The driver of the car suffered injuries that are considered to be non-life threatening, and was transported to the Oregon Health & Science University hospital for treatment. The driver’s current condition is not known.

Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the wreck. It is unknown why the car ran the red light leading to the collision. No arrests have been made nor have any citations been issued at this time.

The MAX train has since been taken out of service for repairs. Shuttle buses were called to transport train passengers between the Rose Quarter and the Southwest First Avenue and Oak Street stations.
