Boulder, CO—A bizarre accident involving a plane and a car occurred near the Boulder Municipal Airport on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Officials reported a small plane hit into a moving car before it crash-landed in a nearby field, as reported by the Denver Post.
During the morning hours, a single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza 35 was apparently trying to land at the Boulder Municipal Airport, when heavy winds caused the pilot, Joe Curtis, 67, to skid off the runway. The plane continued across Independence Road, striking a Toyota Prius. The plane then hit a utility pole, ripping off a wing and crashed in a nearby field.
Curtis then retrieved a large black bag from inside the plane and ran from the scene towards the airport, ignoring another pilot’s requests for him to stop.
The couple inside the Toyota, Ken and Carol Marcoux of Gunbarrel, stated, “the descending Beechcraft seemed to be having trouble with crosswinds when it slammed onto the runway, bounced, then veered 45 degrees to the north and headed toward their car.”
The crash shattered the back window of their vehicle and left a dent in the rear back panel.
Miraculously, no one was injured in the bizarre accident.
Curtis reportedly returned to the accident scene to talk with investigators. It is unknown if he was ticketed for the incident.
