Solon, OH— Nestlé USA’s Baking Division, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has announced a voluntary recall of certain Nestlé® CARNATION® Famous Fudge Kits. The product safety recall was issued because some of the distributed kits reportedly lack complete allergen precautionary statements. While the affected products are not tainted in any way, consumers who are allergic to peanuts may be subject to potentially serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. The FDA announced the recall on Tuesday, May 4, 2010.

The Famous Fudge Kits were distributed to grocery and club stores nationwide during the 2009 holiday season and have “Best By” dates ranging from June to July 2010. Day codes affected by the recall include those beginning with 9225 through 9259. UPC codes for the retail version of the fudge kits are 50000-62251, while UPC codes club store version are 50000-62248. No other Nestlé® brand products are affected by the safety recall.

According to the FDA press release, “The components contained in the kit were completely labeled, including a precautionary statement on one component stating, “made in a facility that also processes peanuts”. However, the outer containers of some of the kits were distributed without a complete precautionary statement. As the health and safety of our consumers is paramount, we are initiating this voluntary recall. We have advised the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and will cooperate with them fully in this voluntary recall. Providing safe, high quality products to our consumers is our number one priority.”

Consumers were not instructed to return the affected products to their place of purchase. However, Nestlé Consumer Services may be contacted at (800) 727-6300 or on the company’s Web site at www.VeryBestBaking.com for information and instructions concerning the recall.
