Orlando, FL—MIM-PI USA LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has recalled about 80 girls’ vests with drawstrings. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Friday, May 7, 2010, due to the strangulation hazard they pose.

While no injuries or adverse occurrences have been reported in connection with the girls’ hooded sleeveless vests, the company issued the recall as a precautionary measure. According to the CPSC, “The garments have a drawstring through the hood which can pose a strangulation hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled on the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.”

The girls’ hooded sleeveless vests with drawstrings came in sizes ranging from 2 through 10. They were made available in two styles, which included blue with pink flowers and black with white polka dots. The vests have a faux fur trim around the hood and black knit trim at the armholes and waist. The vests also have an interior zipper covered by an exterior flap closure and a neck tag affixed with the brand name “mim-pi.”

Nationwide children’s clothing retailers sold the defective girls’ vests from January 2009 through December 2009 for approximately $70.

Consumers have been advised to remove the drawstrings to eliminate strangulation dangers altogether. Consumers may also return the recalled vests to the place of purchase for a store credit.

MIM-PI USA can be reached at (407) 492-8361 via collect call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Consumers may also visit the company’s Web site at www.mim-pi.com for more information regarding the product safety recall.
