Trenton, NJ—A laceration hazard has prompted the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Conair Corp. to issue a voluntary recall of compact hair dryers. The CPSC announced the recall on Friday, May 7, 2010.

The recall was initiated after finding that the spinning fan within the hair dryer can break apart, which then could hit the dryer’s plastic shell. This action can cause the plastic to shatter, posing a laceration hazard to those using them.

The CPSC stated, “This recall involves the BabylissPro 052 Series Professional Compact Hair Dryer. The hair dryer is sold under the brand names Babyliss® Pro Mighty Mini, Babyliss® Pro Nano Titanium(TM), Babyliss® Pro Porcelain Ceramic, BabylissPro TT® Tourmaline and BabylissPro TT® Tourmaline Titanium. The model name is on the hair dryer’s plastic shell. Also, “1000W” and the model number are on the dryer handle.”

The following hair dryer models are included in this recall:

• Babyliss® Pro Mighty Mini

o Colors: Blue, pink, white

o Model #’s: BABMMB052T, BABMMP052T, BABMMW052T

• Babyliss® Pro Nano Titanium (TM)

o Colors: Blue

o Model #’s: BABNT052, BABNT052T

• Babyliss® Pro Porcelain Ceramic

The recalled hair dryers were sold at professional salons and at various online retailers from January 2006 to April 2010. The dryers retailed fro between $20 and $30.

Consumers are advised to discontinue using the hair dryers and contact Conair for a free replacement.
