Fort Worth, TX—A single-vehicle crash on a Fort Worth service road claimed the lives of a woman and two children, and injured three other children on Sunday, May 9, 2010. Fort Worth police officers reported that the wreck happened around 1:30 a.m., in the 5800 block of an Interstate 35W service road, as reported by the Star-Telegram.

Officials reported that a 2007 Toyota Corolla was traveling northbound on the service road, which has a slight curve, when the car jumped a curb and drove into the grass where it slammed into a cement base of an overhead sign and erupted into flames. When responding firefighters arrived at the scene, they found a woman and three children trapped inside the burning vehicle. One child was pulled from the burning vehicle by firefighters. The child was rushed to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas for treatment. Two other children, aged 9 and 11, were taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center for treatment.

Tragically, the woman and two children were pronounced dead at the scene. Officials stated that all five children are believed to be under the age of 15. Tarrant County medical examiner’s office plans to use dental records to positively identify the victims.

Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the fatal and fiery wreck. It is not known what caused the woman to leave the roadway.
