Oakland County, MI—A novice motorcyclist suffered critical injuries when he became involved in a collision with a sport utility vehicle. The motorcycle-SUV wreck occurred on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 near Clarkston, Michigan, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.
Reports indicate 20-year-old Nicholas Marshall had neither a cycle endorsement nor a learner’s permit to operate the 1990 Harley Davidson when the accident occurred. In Michigan, it is mandatory for all motorcyclists to have one of the two, according to a Secretary of State spokesperson.
Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe reported Marshall seemingly experienced issues with his bike stalling at around 3:40 p.m.
According to a witness account, Marshall was traveling on Clintonville Road when he apparently “popped the clutch” and abruptly sped forward. Marshall subsequently lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to careen across the centerline of the roadway. Upon doing so, a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV smashed into the motorcycle.
Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel were dispatched to the scene to transport Marshall to POH Medical Center in Pontiac. Marshall was allegedly listed in critical condition at the hospital. The uninjured SUV driver was merely identified as a 29-year-old female from Orion Township.
It was not stated if any citations were issued with regard to the injurious motorcycle-involved motor vehicle wreck.
