May 17, 2010 /EIN Presswire/ — The first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in a decade is threatening Japan’s prized Miyazaki beef, one of the world’s most sought after for its marbling and flavor.
The outbreak was detected last month, and since then nearly all of Japan’s Miyazaki seed bulls have been culled.
The Japanese government has advanced more than a billion dollars to assist farmers who are slaughtering their stock.
