Fort Worth—A Dallas man was tragically killed while being honored with a ride in a Chevrolet Corvette around the Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 15, 2010. Carter BloodCare was honoring the 87-year-old man “for his generous blood and platelet donations over the years,” as reported by the Dallas Morning News and WFAA.
Fred Donald “Don” Krusemark, 87, of Dallas signed up for a ride-along with the Texas Driving Experience, who promises a “safe, educational, fun day on the track at Texas Motor Speedway.”
Krusemark hoped in a Chevy Corvette with a professional driver, who reached speeds up to 100 mph while driving around the track. There was a reported four cars on the track at the time, when one of the cars passed Krusemark’s Corvette at a turn. That’s when Krusemark’s car hit the wall and drove into the infield.
A helicopter ambulance was called to the scene to rush Krusemark and another person, who is believed to be the driver, to Fort Worth area hospitals for treatment. Krusemark was later taken off life support at John Peter Smith Hospital.
Fort Worth police officials stated, “We are not investigating since it was an agreement between the citizen and the track in which the citizen waived liability.”
