Glenwillow, OH—Hoover Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 108,000 Hoover® WindTunnel T-Series™ Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaners. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Thursday May 27, 2010, with regard to the fire and shock hazards they may pose to consumers.

The recall was issued after it was discovered that the vacuum cleaner’s power cord is not correctly routed or firmly seated in the cord rewind assembly. This defect can cause the power cord to be pulled loose, posing potential fire and shock dangers.

Glenwillow, Ohio-based Hoover has reportedly received three reports of minor burns to carpet and furniture in connection with recalled vacuum cleaners. One consumer also reportedly burned his/her hand due to the flaw.

According to the CPSC, “This recall involves Hoover® WindTunnel T-Series™ Bagless Upright vacuum cleaners with the cord rewind feature. This feature enables the cord to wind inside the vacuum for storage.”

Model numbers and manufacturing codes affected by the safety recall include the following:

• Model numbers:

• Manufacturing code ends with…

The CPSC also noted, “Vacuums with the manufacturing code KO9A followed by a green dot are not included in this recall. Vacuum cleaners with the cord rewind feature sold after November 2009 and with any other manufacturing code are not included in this recall. The model number and manufacturing code can be found on a label on the lower rear part of the vacuum cleaner.”

The recalled Hoover® WindTunnel T-Series™ Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaners with a cord rewind feature were sold at mass merchandisers, department stores and independent vacuum retailers nationwide. The hazardous vacuum cleaners were also available for purchase online from August 2009 through May 2010. Prices ranged from $100 to $160.

Consumers have been urged to cease use of the recalled vacuum cleaners and contact Hoover for a complimentary repair. Hoover can be reached toll-free at (888) 891-2054 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET or on the company’s Web site at www.Hoover.com/tseriesrewindrecall.
