Los Angeles, CA—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Colleen Karis Designs LLC have announced a voluntary recall of about 380 All-Star Basketball Chair and Ottoman Sets. The CPSC announced the recall on May 27, 2010, which advises consumers to stop using the chairs and ottomans immediately.
The recall was initiated after discovering that the surface paint on the lettering, which is on both sides of the basketball chair, could have excessive levels of lead. The high amount of lead is a direct violation of the federal lead paint standard. No injuries or instances have been reported in connection with the product.
The CPSC stated, “The vinyl chair is round in shape to resemble a basketball, orange/brown in color and measures about 20 inches in diameter. ‘All-Star’ is printed on both sides in black. ‘Colleen Karis Designs’ is printed on a tag on the bottom of the chair. The ottoman is orange/brown in color and has a black stripe.”
The recalled chair and ottoman sets were sold at HomeGoods stores nationwide from February 2009 through April 2010. The products retailed at about $50.
Consumers are being instructed to immediately removed the chair and ottoman from children and return the items to Colleen Karis Designs for a full refund.
