Rubicon, WI—A collision between a train and pickup truck resulted in the hospitalization of an Allenton man Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010. The train vs. truck wreck occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. in the Town of Rubicon, according to information provided by TodaysTMJ4.com.

Reports indicated weather conditions were foggy when a pickup truck traveled through the flashing lights and lowered guard arms at a railway crossing in close proximity to Highway P and Rome Road. However, the pickup was unable to make it over the tracks in time and was consequently struck by the approaching train.

“A pickup truck went through the flashing lights and arms for the railroad crossing and was struck by the engine, the front quarter panel of the engine… The truck was then dragged approximately half a mile east of the accident scene,” said Dodge County Sheriff’s Patrol Captain Molly Soblewski.

After the train-involved crash occurred, the driver of the pickup truck, 31-year-old Nathan Janz, was airlifted to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening. Janz was reportedly wearing his seat belt at the time of impact.

Officials noted the locomotive had sounded its horn before passing through the crossing, which had its lights and crossing guards activated at the time as well.

Though fog was reported in the area, witnesses at the scene contented they could see the flashing lights and crossing guard clearly.

While alcohol and/or drugs were not suspected in the train-related wreck, investigations continue.
