Muscatine, IA– Thirty-six bags of one specific lot of Kent Nutrition Group Inc.’s Kent Foods 20 Lamb DQ45 Medicated has been recalled. Excessive amounts of copper in the feed prompted the recall, as reported by the FDA.
Only feed from lot number 810127 is included in this recall. At this time no complaints or animal health issues have been received by Kent Nutrition concerning the recalled product.
The FDA stated there is no effective treatment for copper toxicity in sheep, other than removing the excess copper from the sheep’s diet. Sheep who are affected by the copper toxicity can be lethargic and anemic. The sheep may also constantly grind their teeth and have extreme thirst, weakness, recumbency and death.
The recalled sheep feed was shipped to dealers in northern Indiana. The lot number can be found on the tape of the sewed-end of the Kent Feed bags.
The excessive levels of copper was discovered through a routine sampling program by Kent Nutrition Group, Inc. Other Kent Feeds products that are not a part of lot 810127 are not affected by this recall.
Those who have purchased the recalled feed is urged to return it to their Kent Dealer for a full refund.
