/EINPresswire.com/ Key West, Florida – Sean Farrer, Owner of a prominent Key West hotel and attraction discount card program, says that contrary to early reports, which turned out to be erroneous, the BP oil spill has not affected Key West beaches, and that steep discounts are available to vacationers for Key West activities and tourism.
Farrer says that Gold Card Key West, which provides discounts of 10% to 25% or more for tourists who visit local member businesses, offers visitors to the southernmost region of the United States discounts on Key West hotels, scuba diving, and Dry Tortugas charter trips.
“We actually offer dozens of discounts to those who choose to holiday in Key West, with cheaper rates on bike rentals, personal watercraft rentals, and kayak tours. We even offer discounts on the popular parasailing, snorkeling, and dolphin watching adventures, often earning back the price of the card on its first use.”
He says that early news reports mistakenly suggested that oil had reached Key West beaches from the Deep Water Horizon incident, but those reports turned out to be incorrect.
“We have not yet seen any oil on our beaches, and we hope it doesn’t come to that. If it does, however, Key West will come together to clean it up. And we still offer plenty of recreational choices that won’t be affected by the oil spill.”
He says that while the commercial fishing has been hurt significantly by the spill, Key West fishing charters run by experienced fishing guides are still able to find good spots to bring in trophy catches for deep sea anglers.
Farrer believes that the best thing travelers can do who want to help Key West recover from the oil spill is continue to patronize area businesses. The economic impact could dramatically affect the livelihoods of everyone from restaurant owners to hair braiders in the tourism-dependent economy of the Florida Keys.
“I’d like to see a big turn-out this season from tourists who want to show their support for Key West in the midst of this nationwide tragedy. They might as well get a discount while they’re at it!”
