Blue Springs, MO—Three people suffered injuries when fireworks they were handling violently exploded, causing extensive damage to a home in the 3100 block of Southeast Third Street. The blast occurred Monday night, June 28, 2010, according to information provided by KMBC.com.

Reports indicated a pair of 21-year-old males compiled several sparklers by using electrical tape. Upon doing so, the explosive detonated inside the Blue Springs home around 10:50 p.m.

One unidentified victim suffered injuries to his left hand and arm, which were described as “extreme”. The second man, as well as a woman, sustained injuries. Their injuries were not as serious. Both men and the woman were rushed to area hospitals for treatment.

“It was scary… I just hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else,” said witness Kimmy Loboda. Loboda reportedly tended to the most severely injured man by helping him relax, as well as staunching the blood spewing from his wounds. That man was apparently remained hospitalized in fair condition after the explosion.

Authorities from the Blue Springs Police Department, along with federal officials, are expected to conduct a full probe into the residential firework-induced blast. No charges have been filed as of yet.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) also recently reminded consumers about the perils associated with the use negligent use of fireworks. Click here to view Legal News Reporter Nicole Howley’s report concerning firework safety.
