Atlanta – A recent report states the rates for recommended colon cancer screenings for older Americans has gone up, while the number of those being screened for breast cancer has idled. As reported by the Associated Press (AP), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report released Tuesday from a national telephone survey in 2008 shows an increase of 21 percent for colon cancer screenings in comparison with a 2002 report; however, no significant improvement in breast cancer screening rates was seen.
As noted in the report, the results show that screening rates for cancers of the colon and breast were higher among individuals categorized as having a higher amount of education and insurance benefits.
