Perry, GA—Perdue Farms, Inc., in cooperation with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), recalled about 91,872 pounds of frozen chicken nugget products. The USDA announced the recall on Monday, July 19, 2010, because they may be contaminated with foreign materials.

While no injuries or adverse incidents have been reported in connection with the recalled products, the recall was initiated after the firm received consumer complaints regarding small pieces of blue plastic in the product.

Nonetheless, the USDA urges any consumers worried about an injury from consumption of the recalled product to contact a physician immediately.

Products affected by the recall can be identified as follows:

• Product Name: GREAT VALUE Fully Cooked Chicken Nuggets

Size: 1 pound, 13 ounce bags

Establishment #: P-33944

Case Code: 89008 A0160

“Best If Used By” Date: June 9, 2011

Each case contains 8 bags of potentially tainted chicken nugget products. The products were produced on June 9, 2010, and subsequently shipped to a single retail store chain throughout the nation.

According to the USDA press release, “FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.”

Consumers with questions concerning the recall may contact Perdue Consumer Relations at (877) 727-3447.

Additionally, consumers with questions or concerns pertaining to food safety are advised to “Ask Karen” at www.AskKaren.gov. “Ask Karen” is the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day.
