Google Energy to purchase 114 megawatts of wind power
July 21, 2010 — Google Energy and NextEra Energy Resources have announced that the companies have entered a purchase agreement in which NextEra will supply Google Energy with 114 megawatts of wind power from its Story II Wind Energy Center in Iowa.
According to NextEra, the company will deliver power to Google Energy as of July 30, 2010. Google Energy is purchasing most of the capacity of the Story II Wind Energy Center, and the agreement will last for 20 years. On its company blog, Google says the power it’s buying is enough to supply several data centers.
NextEra operates more than 700 wind turbines in Iowa, producing 1,000 megawatts of wind power. In the US and Canada, the company has more than 9,000 wind turbines in operation at 77 wind farms.
