Fort Lauderdale, FL—Atico International USA Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), voluntarily recalled approximately 324,000 bamboo torches due to laceration hazards associated with them. The CPSC announced the product safety recall on Wednesday, July 21, 2010.

According to the CPSC, “The fuel canister that holds the wick of the torch has a sharp edge inside the lip of the opening that poses a laceration hazard when consumers try to remove the wick… The firm has received five reports of lacerations to fingers, including one that required stitches. Four of the injuries occurred when consumers were trying to retrieve a wick that had fallen into the canister.”

The potentially hazardous bamboo torches have a black metal canister with a smooth black metal lid and were created to supply consumers with sufficient light in outdoor settings.
