Mesothelioma and Asbestos News

Quebec – Some scientists have expressed concerns regarding the continued use of asbestos. As reported by BBC News, many suggest that the use of asbestos in developing countries across the globe despite known links to serious health conditions such as mesothelioma may contribute to an international epidemic of released illnesses.

Dr Vincent Cogliano, of the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, is quoted in the report as stating of the issue, “My own personal view is that these risks are extremely high. They are as high as just about any known carcinogen that we have seen, except, perhaps, for tobacco smoke… Any exposure is going to prolong the asbestos epidemic – continued export and continued use of chrysotile will increase the incidence of lung cancer and mesothelioma for many decades to come.”

More information about the issue may be found in the BBC report as http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-10623725.
