Solar-Powered Fruit Tree Acts as a Portable Charging Station via Energized Apples
Los Angeles, Calif. – July 21, 2010 — Greendix, a fast rising supplier of custom solar panels, debuts the concept of a solar tree with “energy apples”. Sonelis Technologies handles supply and distribution in the Americas (N. and S. America) for Greendix’s custom solar product line.
Greendix’s solar tree concept with “energy apples” further pushes the idea of seamlessly integrating solar power into our surroundings. The energy apple idea consists of an apple-shaped battery that gets charged via the leaf-shaped solar panels, which are integrated into a structure forming a solar fruit tree. The energy apples glow while getting charged and also change colors, from green to red, to show when they are “ripe” and ready to use. Users can then “pick” these apples from the tree and recharge their consumer devices instantly. This solar tree could be placed in any outdoors area and serve a dual purpose of beautifying the surroundings as well as serving as an energy storage device, allowing users to recharge their consumer devices such as MP3 players, cell phones in an environmentally friendly way.
Joseph Lin, President of Greendix commented, “The concept of the energy apple is our playful way of showing how a solar apple can be a source of energy just like a regular apple. We hope that, in the future, the solar tree can be a gathering place for the family. Children and parents could give energy apples to each other in the morning to start the day with “extra energy”. This is just one of our ideas of using new technology and applying it to traditional customs. We mainly want to show the world another original application for our custom shaped solar panels.”
Michael Yu, Director of Technology at Sonelis Technologies added, “We want to grab designers and manufacturers’ attention with these types of concepts, so they can see the potential market of adding our custom-shaped solar panels into their products. This solar tree can be designed into any kind of shape and with or without battery fruits. Our everyday consumer devices could “eat” an apple to get energy just like us humans do with apples. Solar powered products no longer need to stick with the typical dark rectangular solar panels. We want to let people know that they can have creative designs in everyday products when going solar.”
