Andy Gray isn’t your average electronic cigarette smoker. In fact, he owns and operates one of the Internet’s leading electronic cigarette review portals, and his reports on the alternative smoking industry are read by tens of thousands of people. Despite a strong belief that electric cigarettes are a step in the right direction, Gray has uncovered that many people are not happy with the way pushy sales people are pitching these in retail malls.
In an attempt to track the growth of the electronic cigarette industry, Gray and a team of associates recently went undercover in South Florida malls. Like malls across the USA, South Florida malls are seeing their kiosk rentals being paid by companies pitching smoking alternatives, such as e-cigarettes. Gray reported that one mall had as many as four kiosks that openly sold electric cigarettes. This is the mall where he started his research.
While many things were observed during the undercover investigation, there were two main points that Gray and his team deemed sufficient enough to report and draw light to.
1. The sales people representing the electronic cigarettes for sale often gave group demonstrations in the form of presentations. While it obviously is an efficient way of getting the message across, not one presenter asked the audience, “by the way, are you all of legal age to smoke cigarettes?”
“You won’t find a bigger cheerleader of making electronic cigarettes mainstream than me,” stated Gray. “However, there has to be a protocol out there that needs to be followed. While I do believe e-cigarettes are great for anyone looking for a healthier, more environmental friendly alternative to smoking, these products do not need to be pitched to under-age individuals.” Gray did state that there were no ‘obvious’ underage listeners during any presentation he watched, but he did add that he’d like to see “some sort of disclaimer or legal protocol in any public forum offering e-cigarette education.”
2. The staff was using language that made it seem at times that electronic cigarettes were “perfectly safe.” Gray added “We all know that whenever you inhale nicotine it’s not safe,” and some of the presentations were a little over the top in that regard. I’d like to see some sort of rules being followed by these companies, just like the best online e-cigarette brands do.”
Gray draws on over a year of experience as a reporter of how electronic cigarettes are impacting society and making the environment a better place for everyone. He likes the “safety” of buying electronic cigarettes online because “you can track people down easier, as well as get email and phone support to find answers. When you buy anything from a mall kiosk, the day they vanish, you are pretty much left without anyone to lean on for answers.”
Gray has listed several of the best selling and most reputable electronic cigarette brands on his popular web portal. He feels that when marketed properly and according to the regulations that will eventually be set in place by the FDA, these alternative smoking devices will help make the world a safer, greener place.
“I get comments from people all over the world on a daily basis, it’s really amazing watching this industry grow,” concluded Gray.
