Warren, MI—Brine, a subsidiary of Warrior Sports Inc., in cooperation with both the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada (HC), issued a product safety recall of Youth and Adult Brine VIP Lacrosse Gloves because they violate the federal lead paint standard. The CPSC announced the recall on Monday, July 26, 2010.

While no injuries have been reported in connection with the defective VIP lacrosse gloves, the silver triad logo on the back on the glove was created using screen printing ink with high levels of lead, subsequently posing health hazards to consumers.

According to the CPSC, “This recall involves black and white Brine VIP lacrosse gloves sold in three sizes: 10, 12 and 13 inches. The name “Brine” is printed in white and a silver triad symbol is printed on the back of the glove on the wrist cuff.”

The following model numbers and sizes are affected by the recall:

• Size: 13 inches

Model Number: LGLVIP03-618983164529

• Size: 12 inches

Model Number: LGLVIP02-618983164505

• Size: 10 inches

Model Number: LGLVIP00-618983164543

Approximately 7,000 VIP lacrosse gloves were included in the recall throughout the United States, while another 30 were included in Canada.

The product was made available for purchase in sporting goods stores from July 2009 to June 2012. The VIP lacrosse gloves were valued at about $50.

Consumers have been urged to contact Brine toll-free at (888) 542-8834 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET to obtain a replacement product or full reimbursement, or for additional information concerning the recall. Consumers may also feel free to visit the company’s Web site at www.brine.com/recall for more information.
