Nearly over a year after the earthquake, Haiti still finds itself needing tarps and aid says Tarps Plus.
PALMDALE, CA – Leading online tarp retailer, Tarps Plus, continues to support the ravaged country of Haiti by sending thousands of tarps to the nation each month — but the need is still there, even over a half a year since the earthquake has hit Haiti. “Just when you think that things are getting better in Haiti, we hear news that, once again, the country is bracing itself. This time, instead of simply trying to recover from another earthquake, Haiti is preparing for what is predicted to be a volatile hurricane season,” said Angelina Urquart. General Manager of Tarps Plus (http://www.tarpsplus.com).
This nation is hard-put to help everyone, and international aid is pouring in to provide emergency shelters for those in danger. These emergency shelters can come in the form of tents and tarps. “Since the disaster, Tarps Plus has continued to support Haiti by sending pallets of donated tarps each month, but the response for more is always overwhelming,” said Urquart.
Since the earthquake that leveled Port Au Prince, donations have come in from around the world to provide poly tarps, shelter and support for Haitians without a home. These tarps, some new and some used, have been a life-saving support to those whose homes were destroyed in the quake. Distributed by aid organizations within days of the quake, canvas tarps and poly tarps have provided shelter from the torrential rains, and a place to stay out of the muck-filled roads and streets.
In addition to providing a shelter overhead, the plastic and canvas tarps are being used to create a tent city for those who band together in the tiny areas left unaffected by the quakes. More than a one and a half million people are currently living under make shift tarps and in tents following the quakes that devastated Port au Prince.
Now, the rainy season has come again. With it, new lives are being lost due to ground instability and frequent rain. Just last week, two boys died in Port Au Prince when a wall collapsed onto a tarp home during the recent rains.
A family mourns, but life goes on. Despite promises from international organizations to repair and rebuild Port Au Prince, much of the city has been left as it was back in January after the quakes. With more temporary shelters, those that remain have a hope of building a new home for themselves and surviving.
