North Texas – A group of women are banning together for a unique means of raising awareness about cancer. As reported by CBS 11 News, “46 Mommas,” a group of women with children who have had cancer, will shave their heads for a fundraising event to be held in Los Angeles Friday to raise money for cancer research.
Mimi Avery, who helped create the group after her young son Julian died of cancer, is quoted in the report as stating of using her experience to help others in dealing with a cancer diagnosis, “When it first happens that’s what you think, ‘It can’t be possible, not my child. It only happens to others.’ But the fact is it can happen to any child.”
The Stand Up 2 Cancer national telethon will be aired on major networks on Friday beginning at 7 p.m.
